Les Sylphides
Music: Frederic Chopin
Ballet Company: Bolshoi Ballet
Inspired by the 1905 visit of Isadora Duncan to Russia, Michael Fokine took the timeless music of Frederic Chopin and created Chopiniana (later renamed Les Sylphides). Premiering in Paris in 1909, Les Sylphides was a new balletic concept for the 20th century, revolutionary in that it was not restricted by the narrative of a story, but rather inspired solely by Chopin's music. |
